Description: A two sided folding brochure.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I set up the brochure in Indesign using the grids and ruler so that everything would be in the right place when I began placing the text and photos onto the Indesign document.

I then placed the photos that I chose to use into the document. I also placed text inside the text boxes in the document. I used tracking, and kerning to make the text look cleaner throughout.

I used Illustrator to create my Logo. In Illustrator I found a font style that used the letter B the way I liked and then used the create outlines function to make it into a vector drawing. I then manipulated the B, using the pen tool so that it looks like a heart and added some circles to make the B look like a dog paw.

I then imported the picture of my daughter and her horse into Photoshop and used the quick selection tool to remove the background around them. I then used the refine edge tool to clean it up a bit. I used the smooth, feather, contrast, and shift edge so that the edge didn’t look so harsh. I then placed the image into the brochure and used the text wrap tool to wrap the text around the image.

Using the pencil tool in Indesign I created a shape that looks like mountains as the background of the brochure. I did this by drawing with the pencil tool and then connecting the end points and adding a fill color of blue. The deep blue color and gold color are seen throughout the brochure. They can be seen in the background of the brochure and in the pictures that I chose.

Message:The message of this brochure is that there is a fun family activity planned and everyone in the family should plan to attend and get excited.
Audience:My children and their spouses.
Top Thing Learned: The top thing I learned was how to use text wrapping. I really like how it makes a brochure look more professional
Color scheme and color names: The color scheme is complementary. Blue and Gold.
Title Font Name & Category:Iowan Old Style This is a serif typeface.
Copy Font Name & Category: I used Arial Black which is a sans serif typeface.
Word Count of copy: 289 words.
Thumbnails of Images used: The photos that were taken from the internet are noted. The rest were personal photos taken by my daughter.

Project 7: Web Page

  1. Description: Web Page to display the logo that I made for a local company.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):
    • I used TextWrangler to alter the html and css for this project. I have used other programs before to create web pages but I have never used a simple text editor. It was fun to learn another way of creating web pages.
    • I changed the html to reflect what I wanted to say and how I wanted to page to lay out. I also attached my logo to the page. Then I used a provided CSS document and altered the CSS to reflect a web page that highlighted my logo and was easy to read.
    • I also used Photoshop and its eyedropper tool to discover the hex# of the colors in my logo. Then I used those numbers in my website as the background, in the heading, and for the text. Tools/Programs used: Photoshop and TextWrangler.
  3. Messages:  The message is that this is a fun, professional, photography studio.
  4. Audience: Anyone who would like to have their pictures taken by this photographer or is interested in photography.
  5. Top Thing Learned: I learned to use the eyedropper tool to find the hex color numbers in the images that I am using so that I can use them in my webpage.
  6. Color scheme and color hex(s):Color used are #531651(dark purple/heading) #333333 (dark grey/text) #A05A9D (lighter purple/background)
  7. Title Font Families & Category:Optima, San-Serif
  8. Copy Font Families & Category:Bodoni, Serif
  9. Changes made to the CSS:
    • Changed the font families so that there were contrasting fonts.
    • Changed the color scheme to match my logo.
    • Other changes that were made were to padding and margins to make the web page easier to read and look more balanced.
    • Added square bullet points to some of the list items and added the strong tag to make one of the lines bold.
    •  Also used CSS to center the logo on the top of the page.
  10. Word Count: (394)
